Sunrise at 'The Office'.
What a beautiful day for this year's Lands End Trial.

Sunrise

This event tests the endruance of both vehicles and riders/drivers.

Those using the Cornish start meet at Plusha Services at the A30/B3257 junction early on Good Friday evening. Vehicles set of at 1 minute intervals (i.e. Start time plus their competitor number in minutes).

Following one of the prescribed routes the aim is to complete the course, including several 'green lane' sections arriving at Hayle mid afternoon Easter Saturday.

Raynet-UK (Cornwall) were asked to assist at three sections this year.

  • Gooseham - Darraacot
  • Widemouth Bay - Crackington
  • Painters Bridge - Warleggan

Our input was to provide reliable communcations between the start of the section and the senior marshal at its end.

Each section is single track with occational hill starts. Most succeede, but for thoes that don't the only way out is back down the way they came. Clearly not a good idea to meet other vehicles trying to ascend.

In conjunction with the marshals we inform the start when to hold vehicles in order to let others retreat.

Widemouth bay - Crackington was a new section for us this year. The actual 'off road' part starts at Mineshop which has little space to park. Any delay there can soon cause problems for locals and holiday makers. Hence the 'holding station' at Widemouth bay. With a 15 minute delay from leaving Widemouth Bay car park to arriving at Mineshop the timings needed to be carefully monitored.

It was well worth the early start to have an opportunity to assist in this very friendly event, plus an opportunity to get up close to a wide variety of motor cycles, chairs and cars.

A few images from the Widemouth Bay control.
